Mastercard and Swarovski launch a virtual reality (VR) shopping app for the Atelier Swarovski home décor line.The app immerses consumers in a tastefully decorated home where they can browse and purchase the pieces with Masterpass, Mastercard’s digital payment service.
The initial virtual shopping experience was created by a group of talented undergraduates who participated in the 2010 SPIRE-EIT NSF Research Experiences for Undergraduates program held at Iowa State University. Further development and refinement was performed by both undergraduates and graduate students at Iowa State University. What you see here is a person in an immersive environment called METaL (http://www.vrac.iastate.edu/facilities/metal/) which consists of two rear projected screens and a projected floor. Stereo images combined with position tracking of the user's head and the shopping cart input device allow the user to move around within the store and view the items on the shelves. For London Fashion Week AW14, Topshop Unique partnered up with ground-breaking technology agency, Inition, to create a complete virtual reality world of the Topshop Unique show. Four lucky fans - who won a seat on the virtual front row by sharing their London Fashion Week style through Instagram and Twitter - sat in the window of our Oxford Circus store and donned bespoke virtual reality headsets and headphone that played the show live from the showspace at Tate Modern. The fashionable winners were not only able to see the models walk directly past them but also look up to the Tate Modern ceiling, to the celebrities sat virtually next to them and kept updated with a moving Twitter feed. Here at InContext, we have a new 360-degree video tour of one of our store environments, shown above. It can be viewed normally from a screen, or used on a phone through Google Cardboard to take a more immersive tour of the realistic virtual world leveraged by our customers. We can use these types of videos to demonstrate all the ways VR can help optimize in-store planning, and give viewers a one-of-a-kind look at how detailed our environments get (you can look up at the ceiling--have you ever even looked at a grocery store ceiling before?) These VR video capabilities are only going to get better and more useful in the business world, and we're excited that we're on the forefront of this technology in the CPG space.

V-Cult tied up with the French event agency Hikari Corporate for the big public launch of the new company.
